Asbestos Testing

Asbestos

Asbestos is contained in many building materials used in both residential and commercial buildings.  It is not necessarily hazardous to our health if a building has one of these products.  A concern arises when the asbestos containing material (ACM) is disturbed or deteriorates to the degree that fibers are released into the air.  To identify  potential risk, an asbestos inspection can be done, or if a specific material is suspected, an asbestos test can be done.

How Do We Do It?

Massachusetts requires anyone doing this work be accredited and licensed...

The training qualifies the inspector to look for certain types of materials that would be suspicious of containing asbestos and to document their location and their condition.   An inspection report of this type does not necessarily include testing.

Testing is most often done at the request of a client who is concerned about a specific material.

Does It Require Air Testing?

It depends. Air testing is normally conducted for asbestos remediation clearance...

Some clients however, are willing to pay for air testing for peace of mind even if there is little or no likelihood of airborne fibers.

Can Testing Be Documented For Legal Purposes?

Testing is always done by accredited laboratories...

and the results can be used as documentation for whatever legal purposes a client desires.

What Does It Cost?

As you might imagine, it can vary a lot...
